Liu Yandong, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met in Beijing Monday with Prvoslav Davinic, minister of defense of Serbia and Montenegro.

Liu said although the two nations are far from each other and have different social systems, the two peoples have a long traditional friendship. The Chinese government values its relations with Serbia and Montenegro, and regards the nation as an important partner in southeast Europe. China hopes to further promote relations with Serbia and Montenegro and create a new era of bilateral relations, she said.

She also briefed the guests on China's domestic situation.
