Li Changchun Meets Reuters CEO

Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, met with Tom Glocer, chief executive officer of the Reuters Corp.in Beijing Tuesday.

During their meeting, Li said  it is vital task to promote exchanges among the news media around the world under the circumstances of the global multi-polarization and economic globalization.

Li said the Reuters is the earliest western news agency to have built up cooperative relations with China's Xinhua News Agency, and China's cooperation with the Reuters Corp has expanded.

Li also said Xinhua is China's official news agency, and he hoped it would have better cooperation with the western news agency. He also voiced the hope that Chinese trade and financial sectors would further cooperation with the Reuters Corp.

China has scored remarkable achievement since the country pursued reform and opening-up policy, but is still facing tough tasks to handle, Li added. He hoped the Reuters guests would have better understanding about China through the visit so as to report the country objectively and comprehensively.

Glocer expressed appreciation for the rapid economic growth of China, saying that the Reuters Corp. will enhance the cooperation with China in the relevant fields.

The Reuters and Xinhua signed an agreement on news exchanges in1957.
