Estonian-Chinese Cooperation Fruitful: President

Cooperation between Estonia and China has been fruitful in various fields since they established diplomatic ties, Estonian President Arnold Ruutel said Monday while meeting a top Chinese official.

During his meeting with visiting vice chairwoman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Liu Yandong, Ruutel spoke highly of China's achievements made in its reform and opening up.

Estonia's entry into the European Union will bring new impetus to its relations with China, especially in the trade sector, the president said.

Liu, for her part, noted that exchanges of high-level visits have been frequent, trade relations developed smoothly and cooperation been broadened since the two countries established diplomatic relations 13 years ago.

China will further develop friendly relations with Estonia and bring them to a new height, Liu added.

Also on Monday, Estonian Speaker of Parliament Ene Ergma met with the Chinese delegation headed by Liu. Both sides hoped for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

Liu arrived in Tallinn, capital of Estonia, Saturday for a three-day goodwill visit.
