Visiting Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Baldwin Spencer said in Beijing Thursday that the government of Antigua and Barbuda will continue to observe the one-China policy regarding the Taiwan issue.

Spencer made the remarks while meeting with Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan Thursday afternoon.

Antigua and Barbuda is among the first countries in East Caribbean to establish diplomatic ties with China. The two nations' relations have since developed well, said Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and Chinese state councilor.

Spencer's visit will push forward the relations between the two countries and their armed forces, Cao said.

While reiterating China's stance on the Taiwan issue, Cao said he appreciated Antigua and Barbuda's long-standing commitment to one-China policy.

Spencer also called for the further development of bilateral ties in various fields, particularly in security and defense.

Spencer started his China tour Wednesday as guest of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.
