At least 11 people were killed and some 200 others injured when a train derailed in Vietnam's central Thua Thien Hue Province on Saturday.

Of the 11 deaths, six died on the spot and five in hospitals. Dozens of the injured passengers were in a serious condition, Vietnam's central television reported Saturday.

The accident occurred in Phu Loc district when the train was traveling from capital Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

All rescue forces are being mobilized to take those injured people to hospitals in Thua Thien Hue and nearby city of Da Nang. Meanwhile, local authorities are investigating the cause for the accident.

The train left Hanoi on Friday night with 500 passengers and 29 staff.
