China and Liberia agreed Monday to strengthen cooperation and exchanges between their militaries.

Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan told visiting Liberian Defense Minister Daniel Chea that since the resumption of Sino-Liberian diplomatic relations in 2003, the two sides conducted sound cooperation in various fields.

Along with the development of the overall bilateral relations, the friendly cooperative ties between the two armed forces also had sound prospects for development, he said.

Cao, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said the Chinese armed forces value the development of its relationship with the Liberian military. It is willing to make joint efforts with the Liberian side to promote the comprehensive development of friendship and cooperation.

Cao also expressed appreciation for Liberia's support for China's reunification.

Chea said the Liberian government firmly pursues the one-China policy. He expressed thanks for China's assistance to Liberia in the United Nations peacekeeping actions.

Chea said he hoped the two countries as well as the two armies can conduct more mutual-beneficial cooperation in the future.

Before the talks, Cao held a welcome ceremony for Chea's visit. Chea arrived in Beijing Sunday for an eight-day official goodwill visit as guest of Cao.
