Kyrgyzstan's Situation Discussed over Phone

Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing spoke via telephone Tuesday to foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on the situation of Kyrgyzstan.

Li spoke to Kazakh Foreign Minister Kasymzhomart Kemelevich Tokayevhis, Uzbeki Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Elyar Ganiev and Tajiki Foreign Minister Talbak Nazarov.

The three countries, together with Kyrgyzstan, are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which was set up in June 2001 to promote regional cooperation and fight terrorism. The organization also includes China and Russia.

The foreign ministers said they hoped the situation in Kyrgyzstan will be stabilized soon. They agreed to cooperate to build up the strength of the SCO.

Li talked with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday. They also agreed that the situation in Kyrgyzstan should be stabilized as soon as possible and return to normal.
