FM Spokesman on UN Security Council Reform

China shows great concern for the reform of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, and will seriously deal with the issue from the perspective of maintaining world peace and promoting common development, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Monday.

Liu made the remarks when asked to comment on the Chinese government's stance on UN Security Council reform.

He said the reform of the UN Security Council is an important issue for the international community and concerns the vital interests of all the parties. The issue is drawing different opinions from member states, suggesting that consensus needs to be reached through consultation.

"China and many countries in the world are paying great attention to this issue. With the attitude of being highly responsible for the country and the nation, the Chinese government will properly deal with the issue of UN Security Council reform from the perspective of maintaining world peace and promoting common development," Liu said.
