Wolfensohn Finalizes Plans for Gaza after Israeli Pullout

James Wolfensohn, the Quartet Committee's special envoy, has finalized some plans for the Gaza Strip after the end of the on-going Israeli withdrawal, local daily Al-Ayyam reported Sunday.

Wolfensohn is helping the Palestinians and the Israelis to reach an agreement that would determine the responsibilities of each part after the Israeli pullout, said the report.

The agreement would be related to each side's responsibility concerning the issues such as demolition of settlers' homes, terminals and passages for Palestinians after the pullout, sources at Wolfensohn's bureau were quoted as saying.

According to the report, Wolfensohn has also prepared a plan related to the settlements' properties and the complete demolition of their houses.

After Israel ends implementing the pullout plan, local contractors under the supervision of international teams would break up the settler homes' remains and crash the materials that would be reused in some projects, said the report.

Meanwhile, Wolfensohn is working on a pack of economic projects that would rapidly effect on the Palestinian economy.

The Quartet envoy will continue his work with the Palestinian Planning Ministry, the United Nations and donor countries to insure that the project would focus on enabling work opportunities in infrastructure, housing and projects of developing the society, said the sources.
