Vice Premier Meets with US Guests

Vice Premier Hui Liangyu met in Beijing Monday with governors of US states, exchanging views on cooperation between the two nations.

In a meeting with Governor of the US state of Minnesota Tim Pawlenty, Hui said the Chinese government values and supports the fruitful cooperation between Chinese provinces and US states and between companies of both sides.

To expand win-win cooperation and achieve mutual benefits is the major orientation of China-US trade relations, Hui said.

Hui later met Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is very familiar to Chinese audiences as a movie hero. Schwarzenegger is also an advocate of the Special Olympics movement, which provides mentally handicapped people with an opportunity to participate in social life through sports training and competitions.

Hui spoke highly of Schwarzenegger's concerns for handicapped people, noting that China has made quite a lot of progress in this field. China will host the 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games in 2007 in Shanghai, and the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics will also be held in China.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to these events, Hui said, hoping that the international community would continue to support China in this field.

The two governors of US states are in Beijing at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
