Senior PLA Officer Meets US Guests
Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), met Thursday with a delegation of general officers from the National Defense University of the United States.

The delegation was headed by General Robert Sennewald.

Xiong said China and the US had great influence in the world and should share responsibility for world peace and the fate of mankind.

He said the two countries should develop constructive ties of cooperation, in line with the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries.

Xiong said China valued the relationship between the two armies and took an active attitude towards mutual exchanges.

China was ready to join with the US to promote mutual understanding and exchanges, so as to advance the development of ties between the two armed forces, he said.

In answering questions from the US guests, Xiong refuted the "China threat" wordage and the Cold War concept.

Sennewald said they were glad to visit China on the 75th anniversary of the PLA.

The US guests arrived in Beijing Wednesday.
