South Korea Begins Annual Emergency Exercise
The South Korean government Monday kicked off an annual emergency exercise involving 380 major government offices nationwide in which government officials will learn how to combat terrorist attacks both on-line and off-line.

Prior to the emergency exercise, the government convened a cabinet meeting at the central government building to review plansfor the emergency drill and readiness for wartime administration, the South Korean national news agency Yonhap News reported.

During the six-day exercise, government officials will learn how to combat terrorist attacks both on-line and off-line and adapt to rapidly changing security situations.

In Gwangju and South Jeolla Province, the exercise will also include anti-disaster measures and emergency water supply scenarios.

The emergency drill coincides with the start of the "2002 UlchiFocus Lens 02" drill Monday, a related annual joint exercise between militaries of South Korea and the United States, said the report.

The joint military drill will last until Aug. 30 to test the two allies' war readiness and military cooperation.
