Nearly 6,000 Government Delegates Attend Earth Summit
The World Summit on Sustainable Development opened in Johannesburg Monday, which brought together 5,730 governmental delegates, spokeswoman of the summit Susan Markham said.

She said that this figure is 1,551 more than Sunday's figure, adding that more than 4,335 from major groups such as civil society and businesses and 2,560 journalists have also been accredited at the summit.

However, the figures do not include those who attend a parallelevent called the Global People's Forum being held in another venueof the city, she said.

She told a press conference after the opening session of the summit that some progress have been made in negotiating some key issues, but she did not specify.
