Designs Show UK Style
A week-long "Designed for Use" exhibition from the United Kingdom will begin on Thursday next week at the Tsinghua Academy of Arts and Design in Beijing.

It will also be held at Times Square of Guangzhou in South China's Guangdong Province in December.

Brought to China by the British Council, this display of new products and technology is expected to showcase British designers' distinctive approach to industrial design.

The exhibition is about an approach to design, about how to generate products that are not only practical, effective and beautiful but also integral to business success.

Every object in the exhibition may tell a story of how perceptive design links business strategy to customer needs. Whether the object is a train or a remote control, a stapler or a complex new technology, every example is aimed to demonstrate how good design delivers objects invested with values on many levels.

The exhibition includes products developed by a range of outstanding British design experts.

People are used to recognizing individual designers for their creative vision but these experts work in teams with a broad range of skills and knowledge about process, technology and human needs, organizers said.

"I am sure 'Designed for Use' will be of enormous interest to Chinese designers, business people and the general public. This exhibition offers deep insight into the design process which will stimulate our shared interests in achieving excellence, enhancing economic performance and improving the quality of life," said Michael O'Sullivan, cultural counselor and director of the British Council, China.

The products in this exhibition will be divided into categories of function, interaction and experience. These are the key criteria that product designers must consider.

Created by the British Council, the UK's Design Council and the Trade Partners UK, the exhibition is being staged in Beijing together with the Tsinghua Academy of Arts and Design. The Tsinghua International Design Management Seminar will coincide with the exhibition.
