China's Top Legislator Meets Namibian Parliament Leader
Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, said in Beijing Wednesday that China was grateful to Namibia for its long-held support for China on Taiwan and human rights, and hoped to strengthen bilateral relations between the two sides.

Li told Willem Konjore, deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, who is heading a parliamentary delegation to China, that a stable, sincere and cooperative partnership served the long-term interests of both countries.

He said he believed the deputy speaker's visit would strengthen friendly exchanges between the National People's Congress of China and the National Assembly of Namibia.

Li briefed the Namibian delegation on China's ethnic groups, its socialist market economy and legislative system.

Konjore said Namibia paid great attention to strengthening relations with China, and considered China a reliable friend of developing countries.

He stressed that the parliament, government and people of Namibia would hold firm to the one-China policy.
