China Congratulates ROK President-elect
China congratulates Roh Moo-hyu on his election as president of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and hopes the ROK will score new achievements under his leadership, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said in Beijing Friday.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin and the Chinese government have sent congratulatory messages to Roh's being elected the ROK's 16thpresident on Dec. 19, Liu said.

The ROK is an important neighbor of China, and China attaches great importance to Sino-ROK relations, the spokesman said.

Since two countries forged diplomatic ties 10 years ago, their relationship as cooperative partners has entered a new phase of overall cooperation, Liu noted.

China is convinced that bilateral ties will be developed and strengthened with concerted efforts from both sides.
