CPC Senior Official Meets Russian General
Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met in Beijing Saturday with Vyacheslav Tikhomirov, deputy interior minister and commander-in-chief of the interior ministry troops of Russia.

During the meeting, Zhou, who is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, had high praise for the steady growth of the strategic partnership between China and Russia.

He said he particularly appreciated the smooth expansion of cooperative ties between China's public security ministry and Russia's interior ministry, as well as those between China's armed police and Russia's interior ministry troops.

He pointed out that China and Russia should further improve cooperation between law enforcement departments and join hands to fight terrorism, extremists, separatists and cross-border organized crime in order to safeguard domestic and regional peace and stability.

Tikhomirov extended his congratulations on the successful convening of the 16th CPC National Congress.

He said that since 1994, contacts and cooperation between China's public security ministry and Russia's interior ministry as well as those between China's armed police and Russia's interior ministry troops have been expanded.

Russia and China share a comprehensive consensus on combating terrorism, extremism and separatism, he said, noting that both nations oppose the application of double standards in the fight against terrorism.

He said he hoped to join hands with the Chinese side to strengthen cooperation and contacts at various levels.
