NPC Chairman Meets Kazakh President
The relationship between China and Kazakhstan has made further progress as the top leaders of the two countries signed a friendly treaty Monday, top Chinese legislator Li Peng said Tuesday.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with Nursultan Nazarbayev, president of Kazakhstan, in the Great Hall of the People Tuesday.

Li Peng said frequent contacts between the leaders of the two countries have played an important role in promoting cooperation between the two governments and peoples.

Bilateral trade and economic cooperation are in a sound condition but have room to improve, Li said, expressing the wish that the two countries strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy and transportation.

He said the NPC attaches great importance to the cooperation with the parliament of Kazakhstan. The two sides should learn from each other in terms of legislation and supervision.

Nazarbayev said bilateral cooperative relations have a good momentum and the two sides share common ground.

Both countries are making efforts to fight against the forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism, Nazarbayev said, adding that Kazakhstan is ready to strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation, as well as cooperation between the parliamentary bodies of the two countries.
