Wearing white clothes, thousands of supporters of the Indonesian Justice Party (PK) staged a rally on Sunday morning to protest against planed US-led attack on Iraq.
Carrying banners "Save Peace and Humanity" and "Stop War on Iraq," the demonstrators started the march from the British embassy -- one of US allies in the attacks.
The protesters later headed to the United Nations office and the United States embassy where security has been increased strongly.
Hidayat has guaranteed that the demonstration would end peacefully.
"None of our supporters are allowed to litter the road," he said, adding that the protesters would end the demonstration by holding mass prayer in nearby Istiqlal Mosque.
Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, has repeatedly opposed attack against Iraq without the UN approval.
On Friday, the House of Representatives' Commission I on foreign affairs, held a meeting with US ambassador Ralph L Boyce and British ambassador Richard Gozney over the Iraq issue, according to local media.
