China Supports Joint Declaration by France, Germany, Russia on Iraq
Chinese President Jiang Zemin told French President Jacques Chirac by phone Tuesday that China supports the recent joint declaration announced by France, Germany and Russia on the Iraq issue.

Jiang said China insistently advocates a political solution of the Iraq issue in the framework of the United Nations.

The inspection in Iraq is effective and should be continued and strengthened so as to implement Resolution 1441, said Jiang.

Warfare is good for no one, and it is our responsibility to take various measures to avoid war, he said.

During the telephone conversation, Chirac briefed Jiang on the joint declaration adopted by the three countries on the Iraq issue, expressing his hope that the international community will make joint efforts to avoid warfare.
