Regular and frequent contact and exchanges between the parliaments of China and Moldova have played an important role in expanding relations between the two countries, said Li Peng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People Congress (NPC) of China.

Li made the remarks while meeting with visiting Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Tuesday morning. He said the NPC was ready to maintain direct contact between parliamentary leaders of the two countries and at the same time, expand exchanges and cooperation among the committees of the two parliaments.

Li also briefed Voronin on the organization of the NPC and its contributions to the development of the legal system and legislation in China.

Voronin said the parliament of Moldova was playing an important role in his country's political life and economic development. The current parliament was taking many positive measures to unite the people of Moldova in their country's development.

Voronin praised the friendly contact between the two parliaments, saying exchanges and cooperation between the legislatures had actively helped develop bilateral relations.

Li said Voronin's visit would add impetus to the deepening of bilateral relations in the new century. He believed that under the care and support of the two nations' leaders, bilateral relations would achieve ever greater results at all levels, including politics, economy, culture, education and public health.

Voronin said that during his visit to China, he had friendly and fruitful talks and meetings with Chinese leaders. He thanked China for its support for Moldova in various fields such as politics, economy, culture and education. He was satisfied with the results of his visit.
