A member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Huang Ju, met in Beijing Thursday afternoon with a delegation from the Australian Labor Party headed by its deputy leader, Jenny Macklin.

The two sides discussed relations between the two countries and the two parties and other issues of common concern.

Huang Ju said that China always paid attention to developing friendly cooperative relations with Australia. In the 30 years since the two countries established diplomatic ties, bilateral relations had developed smoothly, with frequent high-level visits, reinforced dialogue and consultations on international and regional issues and constantly expanding cooperation in political, economic, educational, cultural, tourism and other fields.

He expressed appreciation and thanks for Australia's adherence to the one-China policy and spoke highly of the relationship between the parties, saying that the CPC paid attention to developing friendly relations with all major parties of Australia, including the Australian Labor Party, so as to deepen mutual understanding and friendship and promote the steady development of the relationship between the two countries.

Macklin said the friendly exchanges between the Australian Labor Party and the CPC were an important part of the friendly cooperation between the two countries. Her delegation was pleasantly surprised to see the great achievements of the Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC, and believed the CPC was able to meet the challenges arising from the changes in the international situation.
