Two key suspects connected to the assassination of Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic have been arrested, the Serbian government announced in Belgrade Monday.
Zoran Vukojevic nicknamed "Wolf" and chief bodyguard of the head of the Zemun Clan group, and Dragan Ninkovic a key member of the group, were apprehended by police in the past 24 hours, said the Serbian Interior Ministry in a statement. Both were trying to resist capture and run away.
The Zemun Clan, which has been engaged in political murders and drug trafficking, is held responsible for Djindjic's assassination last Wednesday, according a previous statement by the government.
Djindjic died on Wednesday after he was shot and critically wounded near the government building.
Cedomir Jovanovic, vice chairman of Serbia's Democratic Party, said on Monday that police had arrested 400 suspects since the assassination.
