FM Spokesman Stresses Role of UN Charter
The spirit and tenet of the Charter of the United Nations should be the guiding force in international affairs, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said Tuesday.

Since the end of the Second World War over 50 years ago, the United Nations has played a crucial role in safeguarding world peace, Kong said at a regular press conference, noting that the international community has agreed that this role and influence should be strengthened during the post-Cold War era.

China hopes that all members of the international community comply with the basic principles and aims of the UN Charter and make joint efforts for peace and a stable international environment, he said.

China also advocates the five principles of peaceful coexistence as well as mutual trust and benefit, equality and cooperation in international affairs, he said.
