NPC Standing Committee Chairman Meets Indian PM
The development of China-India good-neighborly friendship is the common wish of the two governments and the two peoples, Wu Bangguo, chairman of China's National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said in Beijing Tuesday.

Wu made the remark while meeting with Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. China and India, as developing countries with large populations, are faced with the same task of boosting economic growth, he said.

The two countries have similar national conditions and complementary economies, and have many identical or similar views on some international and regional affairs, Wu said, underlining the exchanges and cooperation in all fields on the basis of mutual understanding and trust.

Wu said the NPC attaches great importance to its relations with the Indian parliament and stands ready to promote exchanges in this regard.

Vajpayee said his visit to China is a success, and that the consensus he has reached with Chinese leaders is important for bilateral relations. He said his optimism with regard to bilateral relations remains unchanged, noting that peace is the premises of development, and that mutual trust is conducive to peace and development.

Vajpayee also spoke highly of the friendly exchanges between the Indian parliament and the Chinese NPC.
