China Welcomes Middle East Peace Moves
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said in Beijing Monday that China welcomes and supports the positive measures taken by Palestine and Israel in support of the Middle East peace process.

Kong made the remark when asked to comment on the statement of the Palestinian factions of Fatah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad on suspending military operations against Israel, and Israel's withdrawal of troops from parts of the Gaza Strip.

"China welcomes and supports the positive steps taken by the Palestinians and Israel, which will help break the deadlock in the Middle East peace process," the spokesman said.

Kong said China hoped the two sides would continue their efforts, fulfill their commitments and further promote the peace talks.
