The Revolutionary Council of Fatah movement chaired by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat rejected on Thursday the resignation tendered by Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas.
A statement issued by the council secretariat after a Wednesday meeting in Ramallah said the council insists not to accept the resignation of Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen.
Arafat briefed the members of the council on the current condition of the Palestinians, the ongoing negotiations with Israel and the unsatisfactory results of releasing prisoners and ending the Palestinians' suffering, the statement said.
"The reflections of the Israeli position and Israeli practices on the ground, especially against the holy sites in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, are attempts to escape from implementing the roadmap peace plan," said the statement.
It also reaffirmed Fatah's decision to implement the roadmap peace plan and the necessity to set up an international timetable to follow the implementation of the plan by the Israeli side.
