Senior CPC Official Meets Argentine Parliamentary Leader
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met in Buenos Aires Friday with Vice President of the Argentine Senate Lopez Arias and some members of the Argentina-China friendship group in the parliament.

Li said China and Argentina, both as developing countries, face the same task of invigorating the national economy and improving people's living standard and share extensive common interests in international affairs.

The Sino-Argentine relations enjoy great potential and bright prospects, Li said, noting that China is willing to work with Argentina's government, parliament, major parties and people to further boost long-term, stable and reciprocal friendly cooperation in the new century.

The two sides also exchanged views on furthering the friendly ties between the National People's Congress, China's legislature, and the Argentine Congress. Li hoped that the two parliaments will make new contributions to deepening the state-to-state and people-to-people relations.

Lopez Arias said that there are broad areas for cooperation between Argentina and China and that the economy and trade of the two countries are complementary. He also hoped that the Argentine Congress will play an active role in promoting the development of relations between the two countries.

After the meeting, Li and Lopez Arias attended the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition on the life, culture and development in China, co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Argentina and the Argentine Senate.

In the afternoon, Li met with Argentine Foreign Minister Rafael Bielsa.

On Saturday, Li visited the Siderca S.A., one of the leading steel companies in Argentina, and a local fazenda.
