Russian President Meets Deng Xiaoping's Daughter

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Xiao Rong, the youngest daughter of the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, in the Kremlin on Monday.

Putin extended his warm welcome to Xiao Rong and said Deng Xiaoping enjoys broad respect in Russia.

Deng Xiaoping Theory is "not only being put into practice today in China's domestic policy, but is extended into its foreign policy as well," Putin said, adding the theory has been embodied in the development of the Russian-Chinese strategic partnership.

Xiao arrived in Moscow on Sunday to attend Tuesday's presentation of the Russian edition of her book My father Deng Xiaoping -- Years in Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). Xiao is deputy chairwoman of the China Association for International Friendly Contacts and deputy chairwoman of the Sino-Russian Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development.

Putin also said he will make joint efforts with Chinese President Hu Jintao to carry out the Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, which was signed by him and then Chinese President Jiang Zemin in 2001.

In her previous book, My Father Deng Xiaoping published in 1993, Xiao detailed Deng's life from his birth to the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
