Chinese Premier Expresses Sympathy with Pakistan over Flood Disaster

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao sent a message to his Pakistani counterpart Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Tuesday, expressing sympathy over the heavy flooding in southern Pakistan.

In the message, Wen expressed sympathy on behalf of the Chinese government and people to the Pakistani people in the flood-affected areas, and sent condolences to the family members of the victims.

Wen said he believed that under the leadership of the Pakistani government, the people in the disaster-hit areas will overcome the difficulties, rebuild their homes and win the final victory against the flood.

The rainfall in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh, the heaviest in almost a decade, has caused 153 people dead and hundreds of thousands homeless or stranded.
