Chinese, Greek Military Chiefs Hold Talks

Liang Guanglie, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks in Beijing Thursday with Georgios Antonakopoulos, chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff Department.

Liang, also a member of the Chinese Central Military Commission, said the Chinese government and armed forces were willing to join hands with Greece to enhance the friendship and cooperation between the two armies.

Liang said the two countries had wide cooperation in political, economic and military areas, and China is willing to maintain this good momentum.

Antonakopoulos expressed his congratulations on the convention of the Third Plenary Session of the 16th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the success of China's first manned spaceflight.

China has accomplished admirable achievements in economic construction, he said.

The Greek side attached great importance to the military exchanges with the Chinese army, and was willing to raise the bilateral relations to a new high.

He reiterated that the Greek government adheres to the one-China policy.
