Moscow Calls for Equality in Russian-Georgian-US Ties

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov on Tuesday called for equality in Russian-Georgian-US relations, saying that Moscow opposes any form of political triangles in international relations.

"We want equal cooperation and do not classify countries into seniors and juniors because it is hard to determine who is senior. This notion does not work in today's politics," he said.

He made the remarks after he returned from Maastricht, the Netherlands, where he attended the 11th session of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council.

He said that he had held a meeting with Georgian acting President Nino Burjanadze in Maastricht, during which they all agreed to involve bilateral problems through dialogue.

Russia and Georgia "do not need any mediators for resolving problems" in their relations, Ivanov said.

"The two nations have enough experience and wisdom to resolve the problems so long as there is political will to do so," he said.
