FM Spokesman on White Paper on China's Non-Proliferation Policy and Measures

The White Paper on China's Non-Proliferation Policy and Measures issued by the Chinese government on Wednesday is the first authoritative document on China's Non-Proliferation Policy and Measures, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao.

Liu said the White Paper has elaborated on China's policy and stance of non-proliferation and introduced China's persistent non-proliferation efforts and export control mechanism.

China, as a signatory state to a series of international treaties, has attached importance to the non-proliferation issue and has been against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery, he said.

For many years, the Chinese government has made unremitting efforts in the building of an export control mechanism and engaged in international non-proliferation cooperation.

Especially in recent years, the Chinese government has instituted laws on export control covering nuclear, biological, chemical, sensitive goods and all munitions according to the international norm, Liu said, stressing that the publication of the White Paper displayed the determination and sincerity of the Chinese government in opposing proliferation.

He said China will continue to actively participate in the international cooperation of non-proliferation and strengthen communication and consultation on export control aiming to improve export control mechanism.

"We are willing to make concerted efforts with all parties concerned to enhance the non-proliferation process and promote the peace, stability and development of the world," Liu said.
