Chinese FM Talks with US Secretary of State over Phone

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing talked on the phone with US Secretary of State Colin Powell Friday evening.

Powell said US President Gorge W. Bush and the US government welcomed and were awaiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's upcoming visit.

Powell reiterated that the United States would adhere to the one-China policy, saying that the United States has repeatedly explained to China its stance on the Taiwan issue, and will adhere to its stance.

Li exchanged views with Powell on issues concerning the Beijing six-party talks, which attempts to peacefully solve the nuclear issue in the Korean Peninsula, and other issues.
