Nepal-China Border Meeting to Be Held in Beijing

The third Nepal-China joint border inspection meeting will be held in Beijing on March 25-26, the Nepali Foreign Ministry announced in Kathmandu Monday.

"During the meeting, Nepali and Chinese officials will dwell on various aspects relating to the Nepal-China border, in particular the maintenance and establishment of boundary pillars, which are 95 in numbers all along the border, the formation of joint border inspection teams, and the duration and procedures to be adopted for such inspection," said a press release issued by the ministry.

An eight-member Nepalese delegation led by Hira Bahadur Thapa, joint secretary of the Nepali Foreign Ministry, left here Monday for Beijing to participate in the meeting.

The Nepal-China boundary treaty was signed in Beijing on Oct. 5, 1961. As per the provisions of the protocol on boundary signed in 1963, the two countries are to carry out regular joint inspection of Nepal-China border in mutually agreed intervals.

The first and second joint border inspections were carried out in 1979 and 1988 respectively.
