Spanish Authorities Say a Tunisian Planned Madrid Bombings

The Spanish authorities said Thursday a Tunisian planned and coordinated the bombings on March 11, which hit the capital Madrid killing at least 190 people and wounding 1,450.

The Tunisian was identified as Serhane Ben Abdelmajid Fakhet and was included in the list of six Arabs whose arrest was requested by the Spanish police on Wednesday.

Ben Abdelmajid, alias "The Tunisian," participated in the renting of the village in Morata de Tajula, near Madrid, where the bombs were prepared.

The other five men sought by the Spanish police were Said Berraj, who was allegedly connected with the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda, Jamal Ahmidan, Abdennabi Kounjaa and Rachid and Mohamed Oulad Akcha brothers. All the suspects are Moroccan nationals.

Twenty-four people, including a Spaniard, had been arrested in connection with the most bloody terror attempt in the history of Spain. Fifteen of the detainees are in prison, five are under arrest and four have been released.

The Spanish authorities said 83 people injured in the bombings remain in hospital while 10 of them are in serious conditions.
