Shanghai Scores US$ 4,500 in Per Capita GDP
This east China metropolis recorded US$ 4,500 in per capita gross domestic product (GDP) last year, placing first in the country.

This means that Shanghai has attained the level of a country with a moderate income, according to the municipal statistics bureau.

According to the sources, the city saw faster economic growth in 2001, and chalked up 495.1 billion yuan (about US$59.65b) in GDP, up 10.2 percent over the figure for the year 2000, at constant prices.

In 2000, the city recorded US$4,180 in per capita GDP, the sources said.

They added that the service and industrial sectors are the two major factors behind the city's rapid economic growth.
