Beijing hosted a wide range of music fans Tuesday at the Modern Sky Festival in Haidian Park. With about 120 musicians and bands, the three-day event will continue on four stages, spanning mainstream pop, hip-hop, metal, electronic, and folk music.

Taiwan singer and producer Sandee Chan performs at the Beijing Modern Sky Festival, on Tuesday, October 2, 2007.

Shanghai-based garage rock band, Banana Monkey, raised the curtain on the first day, followed by Taiwan Golden Melody Awards' best producer, Sandee Chan; Beijing expats' favorite, P.K.14; and Hong Kong hardcore five-piece band, King Ly Chee.

The new star, Chen Chusheng, who recently found fame by winning the American Idol-like Happy Boy competition, also shared the stage with alternative artists.

New York-based Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as the festival's biggest headliner, will give an hour-long performance on the last night. Sponsored by China's largest independent record label, Modern Sky, the event also features homegrown post-punk bands like Re-TROS.

Chen Chusheng, winner of the Happy Boy singing competition, performs at the festival.

Xiao He, vocalist of Beijing's Glamorous Pharmacy, performs at the festival.
