'Village to Village' Project Succeeds

The State Administration of Radio, Film and TV announced that villagers with electricity supply can now watch TV or listen to radio.

94 percent of the Chinese people have access to TV or radio.

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television announced Monday that villagers in all villages with electricity supply can now watch TV or listen to radio.

The administration attributes this success to a "village to village" project launched in 1998 to solve the difficulties of extending TV and radio into the country's poor western areas.

However, 80 million villagers still have no access to TV or radio. The Chinese government promises to solve the problem by the end of next year.
