IOC Chief Rogge to Grace China's National Games

The International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge will have a preview of Chinese sports strength in Beijing Olympics when he attends the country's Tenth National Games to be held in October.

The organizers of the national games said on Friday that Rogge has been invited to attend the quadrennial all-sports event to be held in 13 cities of Jiangsu Province, east of China from October 9-21.

"In China the national games is always regarded as the mini-Olympics, The tenth games will carry more significance due to the Beijing Olympics, "said Liao Xiaoxing, vice media chief of the organising committee.

The Tenth National Games will feature 32 sports, including some winter sports, plus 357 disciplines, almost amounting to the national-version combination of Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics.

According to Liao, all those Olympians who garnered 32 gold medals for China in last year's Athens Olympics will take part in the national games, which draws more than 20,000 athletes, coaches, officials and staff.

"Our slogan for the national games is 'Do your best in 2005 and dream come true in 2008', "said Liao.
