Doctor: Snoring Is Harmful to Children

Doctors say snoring can hamper the development of children's intelligence and growth.

Adenoids are two infection-fighting organs at the back of the nose above the tonsils. Chronic infection or allergies of the upper respiratory tract can cause the ailment.

When adenoids are enlarged, people have difficulty breathing through the nose. As a result, snoring can occur.

Scientists say significant respiratory obstruction results in a lack of oxygen in the brain, which hampers the production of growth hormones.

There are an estimated 2.5 million children in China suffering from enlarged adenoids.
