Global Food Safety Forum Opens

Health scientists and officials from over 30 countries and regions have gathered in Beijing Thursday to share their experiences on improving food safety and promoting international cooperation on the field.

The two-day "Global Food Safety Forum" focuses on food safety technology innovation and setting up effective food safety systems.

At the opening ceremony China's Vice Premier, Wu Yi, says the Chinese government pledged that the Chinese government will cooperate with other countries to improve food safety and promote food trade.

Food safety is receiving more and more concerns in China, as some bad quality or even fatal products such as milk powder and noodles have been disclosed recently by the media.

The two-day forum is sponsored by Canadian International Development Agency and research centers under China's State Council and attended by experts from World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Bank.
