Check on AIDS Vaccine Trials

Eight volunteers injected with the experimental AIDS vaccine received physical checkups in Nanning in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Sunday, 24 hours after they had the injections, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.

They all felt “good” and doctors said the result was quite “satisfying.”

The eight volunteers are from a medical college, and are aged from 18 to 30.

They were required to restrain from smoking, drinking and strenuous sports within 72 hours of the injection. But there was no restriction on their diet, doctors said.

The volunteers would receive eight checkups in six months.

Each had already received 2,000 yuan (US$240) for the injection. They would also receive several hundred yuan for each checkup, the report said.

The Guangxi Center for Disease Control will recruit 41 more volunteers for the AIDS vaccine trials.
