'Chinese-standard' 3G Handsets to Debut at April End

Handset terminal has long been called the bottleneck for the commercial application of "Chinese-standard" 3G (third generation mobile communications). With the efforts of chip and equipment manufacturers nearly 20 kinds of handset terminals made by 14 Chinese and foreign producers will make debut at the end of April.

An official with the TD-SCDMA Industry Alliance said on Wednesday that at the 2005 TD-SCDMA International Summit to be held from April 26 to 27 producers like Huawei, ZTE, DTmobile, Samsung and Siemens would exhibit handset terminals that could realize on-site call. In developing the "Chinese-standard" 3G mobile phones domestic manufacturers have a head start over overseas producers. As the industrial chain of this standard matures an environment of multiple suppliers has taken shape.

As learned, on entering 2005 TD-SCDMA is heating up worldwide. Its technological capability is perfecting and its market advantages are becoming clear. International cooperation is warming up. More and more internationally known producers are increasing investment in this standard. Major R&D manufacturers have started to work on it by forming independent networks.

During the test of the 3G mobile communications domestic and foreign handset terminal manufacturers played an important role. Apart from the test of TD-SCDMA handsets major handset terminal producers also took part in the tests of two other standards - WCDMA and CDMA2000. As learned emphases were put on the test of handset terminals' basic functions, services they support, interoperation between system and terminals, terminal performance and interoperability.
