Innovation, Technology Key to HK's Future: Tung
Innovation and technology were powerful drivers for the long-term growth of economy, said a Hong Kong official Thursday.

Henry Tang, secretary for commerce, industry and technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), said the SAR government is a facilitator and supporter in driving innovation and technology.

"Our vision is to develop Hong Kong into a center of innovation and technology, thereby increasing the added value, productivity and competitiveness of Hong Kong's manufacturing and service industries," he said.

Welcoming US-based Sybase's decision to move into Cyber port Phase III in 2004, Tang noted that Sybase had always been a staunch supporter for the government's Digital 21 Strategy.

"I am pleased that Sybase has been a close IT partner with the government and will work together with us in creating a success story for Cyber port. The commitment of this important software company will help draw other companies to come to Cyber port," Tangsaid.

Sybase signed a letter of intent in 1999 to become an anchor tenant at Cyber port, one of the infrastructures that Hong Kong is investing to promote innovation and technology.
