First Test-tube American Cow Born in China
The first test-tube American cow is growing well after her birth earlier this month in east China's Shandong Province, experts said Monday.

The calf weighed 42 kg at birth, said Dr. Yang Xiangzhong.

About 80 more are expected to be born in the coming days, according to Yang, as about 200 test-tube embryos of American cows were transplanted into indigenous cows last year in a move designed to introduce American cows to the province.

The success rate of the transplanting stood at 40 percent, said Yang.

The gestation period for cows is usually around 290 days.
