A new face shield made of light-weight material that can protect front-line medical workers from the SARS virus is being tested in Hong Kong, said a local newspaper Thursday.
The Hong Kong Hospital Authority started the week-long test since Monday. About 40,000 new face shields have been distributed by the authority for workers to test if they are useful and comfortable enough.
The face shields, which are made of optical-grade film with an anti-fog coating, cover the whole face but are lightweight and convenient to use.
Development of the face shields was coordinated with the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. A Hong Kong-based company used its factory in Shenzhen to make the product.
