Institute for Nutritional Sciences Launched in Shanghai

The Institute for Nutritional Sciences under the Shanghai Life Science Institute, a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was unveiled in this oriental metropolis Monday.

The unveiling was done by Lu Yongxiang, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and also CAS president, and Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng.

Shi Xianglin, who is also a team leader with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the United States, was appointed head of the newly established institute where there are currently 38 research workers.

The new institute will focus on research about metabology and metabolic diseases, said Shi.
