First Double-mode Cell Phone to Go into Market in 2004

The first cell phone for use on both GSM and CDMA networks will go on the market in China in mid 2004.

The mobile phone can switch between networks by using two cards with the advantages of the large flow of data provided by CDMA and the nationwide service of GSM.

The new double-mode cellphone launched by China Unicom will be named "World Wind".

Mobile phone manufacturers Motorola and Samsung are launching mass production of the phones for China Unicom, which will start procurement from January 2004.
