HK Shopping Festival Attracts Tourists

Hong Kong Shopping Festival, which started from June 26, has attracted over 1.3 million tourists to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Tourism Board or HKTB released its statistics on Wednesday.

Hong Kong is expected to receive 3.7 million overseas tourists during the shopping festival which is to wind up at the end of August.

As part of the festival, 2004 Shopper of the Year Contest was held Wednesday, with the participation of 15 teams of super-shoppers from the source markets.

HKTB Executive Director Clara Chong said these 15 key source markets contribute over 90 percent of all visitor arrivals. And more than 6,500 retail and dinning outlets citywide are participating in the shopping festival.

Another highlight of the shopping festival -- a Lucky Draw featuring 56 fabulous prizes worth more than 2 million HK dollars or US$256,410 in total -- will be held in early September.
